Camping Wheeler's Pass

Okay, I admit this is really a photo-op for my cellular active re-rad tower. Re-rad is tech speak for a re-radiation antenna system. It is a system I designed that can provide five bars of cellular service where the signal is too weak to use otherwise. I use my cell phone to access the internet then link the data connection to our laptops via bluetooth. In this way, Judy and I can both work with connections to the Internet (provided we stay within 30 feet of the portable tower).

Anyway, we were looking for a higher elevation camp site along Wheeler's Pass where we could get away from the heat of the city and get some work done. We found this excellent camp site where our re-rad system could provide us with cellular and internet service. We tried a location close by and inadvertantly set up camp right in the middle of a Bobcat's hunting trail. At around 3:00 in the morning, he stood just outside our tent and screamed at us. Talk about a rude awakening! If you've never heard a Bobcat's scream, it sounds like a woman screaming very loudly. In the middle of the night, it is bone chilling.

This camp site turned out to be perfect and at high enough in altitude to keep cool in the hottest part of summer. We'll be returning to this site when it gets hot in the city and we need to get away.
