The Titanic - Rare Footage and Photos

April 15, 2016

I was commissioned to do a 26 minute tribute to the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. I scoured every historic archive I could find. This resulting video contains only rare historical footage, and in some cases, recently discovered footage and photographs of the Titanic - its construction, voyage, sinking, and rescue of passengers. The last few minutes contain very rare film footage only recently recovered from the wreckage itself.

Waking Doves

January 3, 2015

This morning, I was waiting on the coffee to finish perking and looking out the sliding glass door at the back yard. I noticed a pair of doves with one of their offspring sleeping. It was a cold night so they decided to sleep late while the sun warmed them up. So, I pointed my camera at them and waited for them to wake up.

I love quiet mornings when I get a chance to see nature getting the day started.

Hummingbird Wintering Over

December 31, 2014

We have a half dozen Costa’s hummingbirds that have decided to stay the winter rather than migrate to Mexico. I suppose they prefer the hummingbird equivalent to fast food - our feeders.

This morning was cloudy with some light snow falling. I saw this little guy perched out on our now dead tomato vines. I usually see a female with him but she was not around this morning. Overcast skies is sometimes the best lighting for rich colors without strong contrasts so I shot this short video of the Costa’s male.

Quadcopter Over Redrock Canyon

June 19, 2014

I wanted to take my quadcopter out to Redrock Canyon, Nevada, to shoot some scenes along the 13 mile scenic road that takes you through the canyon. I shot this short video from three points in the canyon - the first red rock face on the East side, the highest overlook on the North side, and the Pine Creek trail turnoff on the West side.

Blood Moon - Total Lunar Eclipse

April 14-15, 2014

For my family and friends who couldn't observe the "Blood Moon" full lunar eclipse on April 14-15, 2014 due to overcast, rain, and snow, I braved the sub 70 degree temperatures and fresh desert night air to do a time lapse video of the event. Here are over 220 still photographs taken with my still camera (taken 1 minute apart) then condensed into a one minute clip.

I shot at 400 ISO, initially starting with a 1/800 shutter speed then gradually reduced my shutter speed to 2.5 second per frame (on tripod, of course) to capture the very low light red hue of the moon. When the eclipse began to end, I stepped up the shutter speed gradually back to 1/800 second rate. Enjoy!!!

The Fearless Humming Bird

August 31, 2012

We went camping off of Wheeler's Pass trail on the Pahrump side of the Spring Mountains. Our camp was visited frequently by humming birds. These little guys (and gals) are fearless. I shot this video with my iPad standing less than two feet from the feeder.

Joy's First Birthday

January 15, 2011

We're camping at Zion National Park and it's Joy's first birthday! Enjoying a salmon cake with a birthday candle on top, she wishes every day could be her birthday.

Joy's First Swim

August 12, 2010

We wanted to get away from town and decided to go camping at Zion National Park. This is a video of Joy's first swim (and her first time seeing a river).

The Joy In The Morning Show

April 26, 2010

Judy and I purchased a new HD video camera a few months ago and we're just starting to create some family videos for our web site. This is a video of Joy at 12 weeks of age having one of her "zoomies" in the morning.
